The Home

The Island Residential Care Home is in an idyllic location close to the seaside, shops, local amenities and places of local interest. There is ample parking and visitors are welcome at any time.

Everything is tailored for older and younger adults respectively. The two story building has allowed us to dedicate the upper floor to those, who are sixty five or over and the ground floor is tailored to the younger adults between the age of eighteen and sixty five. A lift ensures easy access to both floors.

We aim to ensure that each resident enjoys the highest quality of life with indipendance and individual choice being promoted. This helps to give our residents and relatives confidence, which is so very important.

We realize that this website can only give you a glimpse of "The Island Residential Care Home". We therefore invite you to come and see for yourself.

To make arrangements to visit, do give us a call on 0333 234 1666. You are also very welcome to join us for a meal if you would like.

Bedrooms are fully furnished, carpeted, centrally heated and have plenty of cupboard space. All rooms are fitted with wash basins and some have en-suite facilities. All doors are extra wide for easy access. Service users have a choice of decor and how they wish to furnish their room, (an assessment is carried out for the fire safety of furniture). There is a call system and smoke detector in every room.

Each bathroom is fitted with a hoist and other ancillary equipment which helps promote independence and protect dignity. Emergency alarm call systems are also fitted in each room.

The lounge for the young adult is spacious. It has television, video, stereo along with a selection of board game and pool table. Adjacent to the lounge is an open plan dining area. The corridors are wide enough to allow two wheelchairs to pass with ease. There are wheelchair recharging bays off the corridor.

The lounge in the older people's unit is spacious (to access to outdoor veranda) and equipped with a television, stereo along with a selection of board games. Adjacent to the lounge is a separate dining area and access to the Lift. There is also a separate smoking room with television and video.

There is a payphone on the ground floor and if privacy is required, the main phone in the office is available. Residents can also have their own mobile phones.

Laundry is washed in-house and all clothes must be clearly labelled. In order to comply with infection control regulations all clothing is washed at 65 degrees.

A hairdresser visits the home regularly for basic hair cut and there is no charge for this service. Residents can use their local hairdresser in the village should they wish and this can be invoiced along with any care fees.

Membership of outside clubs is encouraged to promote socializing and integration with local community. An Activities Organizer is employed to oversee a varied programme of activities and trips out. This includes things such as board games, bingo, reminiscence, swimming and outings to the races, local park, seaside and shopping.

Food / Dining
All meals are home cooked from fresh ingredients and a menu is available on request. Personal likes and dislikes are always taken into account and special diets can be catered for.

Residents are encouraged to make use of the large garden which has plenty of secluded areas for privacy. We enjoy the garden throughout the year, however particularly in the summer months when we enjoy barbeques.
